Integrated transport network
A transport interchange will connect the town with the new Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system for South Yorkshire. This advanced transport system, using the latest Euro standard vehicles, will provide rapid, direct access to the centres of Sheffield and Rotherham.
The town’s transport interchange facility will have capacity for some 1000 cars and will be located within a five-minute walk of most households in Waverley. It will provide an high quality alternative to car travel between Rotherham and Sheffield and the Waverley site.
The new value-for-money system aims to improve and enhance the environmental assets and improve air quality in key hot spots and ensure integration with the urban centres and the wider transport network.
Benefits of Bus Rapid Transit
Frequent buses with regular connections will give access to existing and new employment in the area. The service will provide a faster service with fewer stops and better reliability and will encourage residents to use sustainable public transport.
The new vehicles will be built to the very latest European standards and will also free up capacity on the regular network, so its environmental credentials will showcase South Yorkshire to the rest of Europe.
