From sterile wasteland to thriving new community
The Waverley development will transform a disused and reclaimed industrial brownfield site in the heart of South Yorkshire into a thriving new community. Its completion over the next 20 years will create a bustling town of 9,000 people, living in a green and pleasant lakeside community. Around 4,000 new homes will be built, along with shops, restaurants, schools, leisure facilities, health and community centres and parks. Along with the adjoining commercial developments, Waverley will create around 7,000 new jobs.
Plan for the future
The masterplan for the town uses the latest sustainable design principles to propose an entirely self-supporting, low-carbon community. It incorporates the development’s existing features and development limitations into a design that will transform this sterile brownfield site into an attractive, well-integrated and vibrant town for the future.
Homes for everyone
The proposal for almost 4,000 new dwellings includes a versatile mix of apartments and townhouses, terraced and detached homes to suit every budget and taste. Singles, couples and families will find carefully planned, attractive homes to fulfil their every need. Almost 25% of the dwellings created will be affordable homes of the residential mix
Getting around
The planned town is well connected to its neighbouring communities, and is planned to have its own transport interchange facility. An interlinked network of paths and bridleways encourages people to get around on foot or by bicycle. A well-planned road network within the town offers easy access to all areas while promoting safety for all road users.
The 20-year plan
Parts of the new Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP) are already completed and further construction is well underway. Highfield Commercial has also been cleared for development and building work will soon begin. The residential areas of the development, along with the supporting community, parkland and other public areas are due to be completed in phases over the next 20 years. The town is expected to be completed by 2030.
