Development founded on green principles
One of the fundamental design principles for the Waverley community is environmental enrichment. Green spaces, watercourses and a range of habitats, from wetland to woodland will enrich the biodiversity of the town and provide lush, welcoming recreational areas for local people. Designed as a self-sustaining community with on-site energy generation, energy efficient homes, well-integrated public transport and local facilities, Waverley will be a model sustainable town.
Town with a green heart
Every resident in Waverley will live within five minutes’ walk of a local green space or the wide open vistas of Highwall Park and Waverley Park. Green spaces will provide recreational and sporting opportunities, play areas and places of calm and tranquillity for local people. Extensive paths and bridleways will connect all of the town’s open spaces, making them easily accessible to everyone. Streets will be lined with trees and public spaces lavishly planted to create an unbroken network of green across the town.
Closer to nature
A rich variety of habitats will be created throughout the town, from wildflower meadows to native woodland, from wetland and marsh to open grassland, and from lakes and rivers to parks and gardens.
Self-sufficient, sustainable community
The environmental benefits of so much green space will be complemented by the sustainable design of the entire town. On-site electricity generation will supply all of Waverley’s needs, all buildings will be designed to maximise energy efficiency, rainwater will be recycled, waste will be minimised and public transport will be accessible to everyone.
