A realm for recreation, relaxation and leisure
After Orgreave Square, this is the most important public space for the new Waverley. It is a lakeside area overlooking 26 hectares (65 acres) of water set in three times that area of parkland. It will be an attractive, thriving place for recreational and leisure activities, featuring a wide waterfront promenade lined with cafes, restaurants, bars and shops - rivalling a Continental lakeside experience.
Take a break by the lake
Residential accommodation can be created above the lakeside cafes and shops, providing a unique place to live overlooking the lake. It will be an exciting place to be at all times of day and into the evening. Eating places provide both a lunchtime and evening economy for the town, while the lakes offer opportunities for sailing, windsurfing, boating and swimming.
Enjoy the outdoor life
The wide promenade along the lake will allow outdoor dining and pavement shop displays, provide room to walk, cycle and sit, as well as a venue for markets and other community events. It will be a realm quite different from the rest of the town - a place of recreation, leisure and relaxation.
